When should I go to Urgent Care?
Urgent care centres provide 24/7 access for unexpected, but non-life-threatening health concerns, which require same day treatment. Patients are seen based on their medical need, not order of arrival.
Go to urgent care for:
- illnesses or injuries that cannot wait for you to see your family doctor
- dehydration
- fevers, flu symptoms, rashes or infections
- injured limb that might be broken or sprained
- cuts that won’t stop bleeding
- any other urgent, but not life-threatening, conditions

What to expect:
Parking
Urgent Care has a driveway so patients can be dropped off right at the Urgent Care Department door. If someone is bringing you to Urgent Care they can use one of the parking spots in the drop-off loop until you are safely inside the department. After this, they will need to move the vehicle to a public parking area.
Arrival
As soon as you walk into the Urgent Care Department, stop at the Security Desk. Please fill out the white piece of paper with your name and the reason you came to see the doctor.
Registration
Please take a seat in front of the Triage Nurse/Registration Desk. Have your Manitoba Health card ready and your coat removed. The Registration Clerk will call you up to register you into the system. Your identification armband will then be put on. A red armband means you have allergies, yellow means no allergies.
Triage
Once you have been registered the Triage Nurse will ask you about your illness. The Triage Nurse will do a quick assessment of your complaint and then will direct you to the appropriate place to wait for the doctor or nurse practitioner.
Waiting
You will be asked to take a seat in the waiting room until you are called to see a doctor. Please be patient. Your comfort and safety are very important to us. If you start to feel worse during your wait to see a doctor, talk to the nurse at the Triage Desk. Please let the nurse know if you are leaving the waiting room.
Treatment
Your name will be called and you will be taken into the treatment area where doctors, nurses and other support staff will care for you.
Discharge or Admittance to Hospital
Depending on the nature of your illness or injury, you will be treated and released, or you will be admitted to hospital as a patient. A visit to the Urgent Care Department may last several hours, depending on a number of factors:
- People with the most urgent problems are seen first, regardless of who arrived first.
- You may require diagnostic images (CT scan, X-ray, etc), blood tests or other services as part of your treatment.
- You may have to wait for these services. You may need to be seen by a specialist and may need to wait until a specialist is available.
- Ambulances may arrive with patients who need immediate care.
Food Services
There are vending machines inside the Urgent Care department, which carry snacks such as granola bars and juice.
There is a cafeteria located on the Ground Floor of Concordia Hospital. You will have to exit the Urgent Care Department, and enter through the East entrance located just outside the entrance to the Urgent Care Department or through the front entrance of the hospital.
